Diane 35 is a medicine used to treat female hormonal disorders that contains 2.0 mg of cyproterone acetate and 0.035 mg of ethinyl estradiol, which are substances that reduce the production of hormones responsible for ovulation and changes in cervical secretion.
Usually Diane 35 is indicated mainly for the treatment of deep acne, excess hair and decreased menstrual flow. Therefore, despite having a contraceptive effect, Diane 35 is not indicated only as a contraceptive method, being indicated by the doctor when there is an associated hormonal disorder.
What is it for
Diane 35 is indicated for the treatment of acne, papulopustular acne, nodulocystic acne, mild cases of excess hair and polycystic ovary syndrome. In addition, it can also be indicated to reduce cramps and heavy menstrual flow.
Despite having contraceptive effect, this medication should not be used exclusively for this purpose, being indicated only to treat the referred problems.
How to take
Diane 35 should be taken from the 1st day of menstruation, 1 tablet a day, every day at approximately the same time with water, following the direction of the arrows and the days of the week, until completing all 21 units.
After that, you should take a 7-day break. During this period, approximately 2 to 3 days after taking the last pill, bleeding similar to menstruation should occur. The start of the new pack should be on the 8th day, even if there is still bleeding.
Diane 35 is generally used for short periods, about 4 or 5 cycles depending on the problem being treated. Thus, its use should be stopped after the resolution of what caused the hormonal disorder or according to the indication of the gynecologist.
What to do if you forget to take
If forgetting is less than 12 hours from the usual time, it is recommended to take the forgotten tablet as soon as you remember and the rest at the usual time, even if it is necessary to use two pills on the same day, so that the medicine continues to have the effect wanted.
If forgetting is longer than 12 hours, the effect of the remedy may be reduced, especially contraceptive protection. In this case, what you should do is:
In the first week
If you forget during the first week of the pack, you should take the forgotten tablet as soon as you remember and continue taking the next pills at the usual time, in addition, use the condom for the next 7 days, as the contraceptive effect is no longer present. It may still be necessary to take a pregnancy test if there has been sexual intercourse without a condom in the week prior to forgetting.
In the second week
If the forgetfulness was during the second week, it is recommended to ingest the pill as soon as you remember and continue taking it at the usual time, however it is not necessary to use another method, because the contraceptive protection is still maintained, besides there is no risk of pregnancy.
In the third week onwards
When forgetting is in the third week or after this period, there are two options for how to act:
- Take the forgotten tablet as soon as you remember and continue taking the next tablets at the usual time. After finishing the card, start the new one, without pausing between one and the other. And in this case, menstruation usually only occurs after the end of the second pack.
- Stop taking the pills from the current pack, take a 7-day break, counting on the day of forgetfulness and start a new pack.
In these cases, it is not necessary to use another contraceptive method, and there is no risk of pregnancy.
However, if there is no bleeding in the 7 days of the pause between one pack and another and the pill has been forgotten, the woman may be pregnant. In these cases, a pregnancy test should be done.

The main side effects of Diane 35 include nausea, abdominal pain, increased body weight, headache, depression, mood swings, breast pain, vomiting, diarrhea, fluid retention, migraine, decreased sex drive or increased size of the breasts.
