How to use Desmopressin
The mode of use of desmopressin varies according to the form of presentation, the main guidelines being:
Desmopressin tablet
- Central diabetes insipidus: the average dose for adults is 1 to 2 sprayed up to 2 times a day, while in children it is 1 sprayed up to 2 times a day;
- Nocturnal enuresis: the initial dose is 1 0.2 mg tablet at bedtime, the dose may be increased by the doctor during treatment;
- Nocturia: the starting dose is 1 tablet of 0.1 mg at bedtime, the dose may be increased by the doctor during treatment.
Desmopressin in nasal drops
- Central diabetes insipidus: the starting dose is 1 tablet of 0.1 mg three times a day, which can then be adjusted by the doctor.
Side Effects of Desmopressin
Side effects of desmopressin include headache, nausea, stomach pain, bloating, weight gain, irritation and nightmares.
Contraindications for Desmopressin
Desmopressin is contraindicated for patients with habitual and psychogenic polydipsia, heart failure, moderate to severe renal failure, syndrome of inappropriate HAD secretion, hyponatremia, risk of increased intracranial pressure or with hypersensitivity to desmopressin or any other component of the formula.
